Join us this evening in Columbus for a cookout on the lawn of the Republic Building from 6 to 8 pm. We're celebrating the Indiana University J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program's accreditation by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), honoring founding director Associate Professor T. Kelly Wilson, and presenting the program's new director, Assistant Professor Daniel Martinez.Plus: check out an exhibition of student work made over the summer, on view in the Miller Gallery! The Tangent Gallery’s first show of the semester opens Thursday, September 5. "The Golden State Glows" is a display of the neon sign photography of Eskenazi M.F.A. student Alex Quintanilla (Studio Art, graphic design). Special open hours occur during First Thursday, September 5 from 5–7pm. The opening reception is Friday, September 6 from 6–8 pm. Rock and roll for your ears and your eyes this Thursday at the Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University. At 5 pm come for the talk by Associate Professor of Painting caleb weintraub whose students organized the exhibition "Crossroads: The Paintings of John Mellencamp" on view September 5-December 15. Together with former EMA Director David Brenneman, in the spring of 2024 Weintraub taught "Public Art and Collaboration: Curating the Heartland: Developing an Exhibition of John Mellencamp's Painting." "European Expressionism and American Regionalism serve as inspirations for Mellencamp's artistic practice," according to the museum, "providing a means of articulating social criticism in visual terms."

The McKinney Visiting Artist Series presents a talk by multidisciplinary artist and designer Aboubakar Fofana whose working mediums include calligraphy, textiles, and natural dyes. Fofana is known for his work in reinvigorating and redefining West African indigo dyeing techniques, and much of his focus is devoted to the preservation and reinterpretation of traditional West African textile and natural dyeing techniques and materials.
