Johns Hopkins University has just announced the acceptance of its inaugural Class of 2030, and the news is nothing short of remarkable! But who are these young trailblazers, and what makes them so special?
A Global Pool of Talent: Johns Hopkins has welcomed 553 students from diverse backgrounds into its Early Decision I cohort. These students hail from 10 countries, 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, showcasing the university's global reach and appeal.
Extraordinary Achievements: The admitted students have already made their mark on the world. Among them are a nonprofit founder providing relief to political conflict victims, a poet laureate who founded a club exploring humanity, and a young engineer who designed a 3D-printed mobility device for their pet. And that's just the beginning! The cohort also boasts entrepreneurs, inventors, artists, and even an Olympic youth athlete.
A Commitment to Community: What sets these students apart is their dedication to fostering connections and building communities. They've organized events, led clubs, and found innovative ways to engage their peers. One student developed an app to help friends find each other at festivals, while another facilitated meaningful interactions between their high school and the local neighborhood.
Diverse Backgrounds, Bright Futures: This class represents a diverse range of experiences. Approximately 19% will be first-generation college students, and 56% come from public high schools. They plan to pursue various fields, with 63% enrolling in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the rest in the Whiting School of Engineering.
A Historic Tuition Promise: These students are also the first to benefit from Johns Hopkins' groundbreaking tuition promise program. Thanks to a generous gift from philanthropist and alumnus Michael R. Bloomberg, the university now offers free tuition for families earning up to $200,000 and covers tuition and living expenses for those earning up to $100,000.
But here's where it gets exciting: the university's 150th anniversary coincides with the arrival of this exceptional class. Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, Calvin Wise, believes these students will not only pursue their passions and form lasting friendships but also become an integral part of the Johns Hopkins community.
And this is the part most people miss—the remaining members of the Class of 2030 will be chosen from the Early Decision II and Regular Decision applicants. The anticipation builds as the university prepares to welcome the rest of this extraordinary group.
