Murase Kokomo's Historic Triple Cork 1620: A Preview of Milano Cortina 2026 (2025)

Snowboarding: Murase Kokomo's Revolutionary Trick

Japan's Murase Kokomo has achieved a groundbreaking feat in women's snowboarding, performing a backside triple cork 1620, a trick never seen before in the sport. This achievement comes as a significant advancement in women's big air snowboarding, building on the momentum from the Beijing 2022 Olympics.

The 2022 bronze medallist shared her accomplishment on social media with a simple yet impactful caption, 'Omg bs 1620'. Murase is currently training at Prime Park Sessions, a high-performance camp on Austria's Stubai Glacier, where she's refining her skills.

Her new trick involves spinning backside for four-and-a-half rotations, incorporating a triple off-axis corked rotation, and landing switch (backwards).

The women's snowboard community celebrated Murase's achievement, with the entire Beijing 2022 big air podium joining in. Austria's Anna Gasser, the Beijing 2022 gold medallist, commented, 'Wow wow wow!!! Queen', while silver medallist Zoi Sadowski Synnott wrote, 'Cocooooo' and shared the clip.

Murase's trick is a glimpse of the incredible snowboarding progression leading up to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics. Gasser has already built on her Beijing 2022 gold-medal winning trick, adding another off-axis rotation for a Cab triple cork 1260, which earned her 2025 X Games gold. Sadowski-Synnott has also introduced a triple cork to her repertoire with a backside triple cork 1440.

Japan's Reira Iwabuchi, who finished fourth in Beijing, has pushed her rotation count with a frontside double cork 1440, while Great Britain’s Mia Brookes, aiming to make her Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026, added a Cab 1440 flat spin to her arsenal last season.

These tricks will be on display at the inaugural big air World Cup competition of the season, set for 5–6 December at the Secret Garden in China. The 2025/26 FIS snowboard World Cup season promises to be an exciting one, with slopestyle, halfpipe, and big air events showcasing the latest snowboarding tricks and techniques.
