The Belgian royals have been making a statement with their sparkling accessories at the new year receptions in Brussels. This week, Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Elisabeth were seen donning sapphires, diamonds, and pearls at a palace reception for European dignitaries, leaving onlookers in awe.
Queen Mathilde, known for her elegant style, greeted the heads of European institutions and permanent representatives accredited to the European Union in a bright royal blue ensemble. The dress and shoes, both from Armani Privé, featured a symbolic reference to the EU's colors. Alongside the dress, Mathilde wore a pair of gorgeous diamond and sapphire earrings, which were first seen during the welcome ceremony for the President of Italy's state visit in October.
Crown Princess Elisabeth, who is also the Duchess of Brabant, was also present at the reception. She chose the same designer as her mother, Giorgio Armani, for the occasion, wearing a belted dress she had previously worn for a reception ahead of the coronation in Britain in May 2023. To add extra sparkle to her ensemble, Elisabeth wore a classic pair of diamond and pearl button earrings, which are similar to the ones owned by Queen Mathilde. It's not clear whether Elisabeth borrowed these earrings from her mother or has her own version.
But here's where it gets controversial... The Belgian royals' choice of accessories has sparked debate among fashion enthusiasts and royal watchers.
