The Traffic Woes of Los Lunas: A Commuters' Nightmare
In the charming village of Los Lunas, New Mexico, a familiar frustration has taken hold of its residents. Imagine, if you will, a daily commute that once took a mere 5 minutes now stretching to a torturous 20. Charles Ludberg, a local resident, paints a vivid picture: "Traffic is backed up for miles, literally! It's like a never-ending line of cars."
But here's where it gets controversial... Nancy Jo Gonzales, representing the Village of Los Lunas, acknowledges the issue. "We're aware of the traffic situation. It's not ideal, but we're working on it," she assures. The culprit? A perfect storm of factors: Amazon, Facebook, Walmart's distribution center, new housing developments, and, of course, construction.
And this is the part most people miss: it's not just the volume of cars. The infrastructure itself is struggling. Gonzales explains, "Our traffic lights are in pedestrian mode, which means fewer cars can pass through at a time."
However, there's light at the end of the tunnel. As of Wednesday, the village has implemented a plan. "We're actively monitoring the lights and working with the engineers to optimize them. We've even brought in the LLPD for traffic control during peak hours," Gonzales reveals.
The village aims to clear up the roads by the end of March. But that's not all. They're collaborating with Amazon and Facebook to adjust shift schedules, reducing traffic during peak hours. Once the project is complete, drivers can expect added lanes on the on and off-ramps, easing the flow of traffic.
