Play Character Action games. No other genre comes even close to this one when it comes to combat depth.

just enjoy mashing some buttons in beat-em-ups
ive had fun with "marvel ultimate alliance"
its cape sh*t but its playable. not as deep as character action but it doesnt assault you with annoying cutscenes all the time eitherthe first game has some diablo elements as well. the 2nd is more streamlined and probably easier to play but also a little more cinematic.

It’s just sad that it has combat depth, but the devs ignore it. I understand, tho, since it’s quite hard to make it matter in a single-player game without making it abusable. I guess that’s why fighting games exist, they just give up and let players make their own challenge instead- Anonymous

yeah no I mean I know the enemies and I know what to do as Nero and Dante during those situations while attacking but I kinda blank out as Vergil and get hit, like what are his iframe moves if he has any? do I just need to hammer in the muscle memory for trick down to get out of dodge?
also putting shoot to triggers for Vergil feels really weird
- Anonymous

Reply
You can dodge any attack with Vergil when you're not attacking, how the frick you getting hit? It's the easiest thing in the game, just stop attacking like a moron. You can literally spam the evade button and never get hit by anything.
- Anonymous

Reply
You should be able to manage just with jumping and rolling, but yes, Trick Up/Down is the most busted evasive move in the game and Vergil has JCE on top of it. It's better for it to be weird for awhile than awkward forever. That's why I put Devil Knuckle on R1 and EX-act on R2.

I enjoyed both w101 and bayo 1, but I think bayo 1 is simply the best action game balance wise, I didn't platinum it, but I spent a lot of time playing and replaying infinite climax as well as hard. w101 combat is amazing, but I find it's brought down by the mini games, I couldn't get myself to replay the campaign a lot.

No it isn't
I couldn't even finish the first level
I got to the crystal skull and then reached Doku and immediately hit me how much worse every single second of playing it was compared to 1 and even 2
It's the enemy arenas from 2 with less space, less interesting enemies, worse lighting
It has forced stealth
It has some dumb minigame QTE-like
It has a dull boss
I'm utterly floored that people pretend it isn't sh*t- Anonymous

You mean, it was so successful and production went well enough that they made DLC, another version of it and eventually sequels? Completely unlike 3, which was universally lambasted and then given a half assed version to try and fix it but that still failed an killed the franchise?

dlcless ng 2004 didnt have like 80% of the enemies presented in ngb and the three difficulty modes it had were the same sh*t with the only difference being damage increase. also guess what smarty pants 3 also had dlcs and a re release and there was another ninja gaiden game after it. probably talking to a kid lol was your mother even legal age back when the first ng came out? - Anonymous

I don't know man, maybe you could mention the fact that Razor's Edge (mostly) fixed UT spam? Or the amount of neat tech that the game has?
- Anonymous
>Razor's Edge (mostly) fixed UT spam?
How is it fixing when all it did was put something worse in it's place?
In 1 careful timing of the UT could yield great rewards or have you fail, 2 had you more reliant on OTs, but 3 doesn't have anything consistent, just a bunch of system stumbling on each other
There's no essence charging UTs, you can't recharge ninpo, there's counters for some enemies and some mode ripping off Spartan Rage
None of them flow well - Anonymous
All these mechanics work great in cohesion with each other. Clearly you never got good at Ninja Gaiden if UT and OT Spam are the only things you relied on in previous games.

I think Nioh 1's only really bad bosses were Umi Bozu and Great Centipede. The duo bosses and Tadakatsu were unbelievably obnoxious, but in a way that gave the game character because they were stretching the core systems to their breaking point. Orochi was underwhelming. I think Daidara Bocchi was a huge downgrade from Gasha-dokuro, and Tokichiro 2 was straight up just non-functional.>I think Nioh 1's only really bad bosses were Umi Bozu and Great Centipede
I ended up turning around on Umi Bozy. His level is absolute cancer, but the environmental elements of his fight make it engaging
The centipede is badly designed but it's too easy to bother
The giant chicken was my most hated boss. That and Maria, which was such a cheap b***h

What's with you old men making these "character action" threads lately. First off, none of you have the hands for a game like DMC. You also don't have what it takes to be good at any modern action game. You suck a souls just as much as you suck as Ninja Gaiden. I can admit that you may have been skilled once in your life but that time is over. Now you're a 30+ year old man who is falling apart. If you can't do combos in Guilty Gear XX AC+R you can't handle these game ether. And you suck as modern games even their easier. That's why you ragequit a game like Strive. Pathetic boomers. Pathetic.

It's a stylish action game, whose entire focus is the spectacle of doing combos rather than any sort of puzzle solving or stat number crunch. Character action as a genre name is as vague as Action-Adventure.
